Meet Julia. She seems to be more of a 21st-century babe than one from 1937, when this novel first saw publication. Julia is kind-hearted, incautious, and impulsive. She is barely old enough to have a grown daughter. Susan, the daughter, has been raised by her grandparents, who, attempting to correct their errors with the previous generation, have turned Susan into a prig.
When Susan falls in love, she sends an S.O.S. to her Mom, to come and tell her what to do. On the way, Julia somehow becomes entangled with five trapeze artists. And there are many more far-out adventures before this novel comes to a smiley-faced conclusion.
It went through 12 printings in hardcover, and three more from a low-budget reprint line, before Pocket Books made it their #169 in 1942.
