This is one of Shakespeare's less known plays although it should not be. It is good and perhaps in the best half or so of his plays, but the reason I think that it is not so well known is because it is a complete gore fest. The first half of the book reads more like a horror story than a drama whe...

Why does everyone hate on Titus? Really, it is no less ridiculous than Romeo and Juliet.

This is certainly the goriest of Shakespeare plays that I have read. By the third act, I was reading only to see Titus avenged and I was not disappointed. I’d say it’s like the Oresteia on crack, but the events of the Oresteia are nowhere near as fucked up as in thi...

4.5 starsI don't know what was Shakespeare thinking, but I really liked this play, despite all the blood and massacre and revenge.

Tereus’ rape of Philomela, and her revenge with her sister Procne, inspire this fictionalized bloodbath set in Roman times. Titus, the dutiful and loyal soldier of Rome, falls to the conspiracies of the new Goth queen and Aaron, the Moor. The horrors let loose upon his daughter Livinia are vicious...
