Woo, boy, this is was an unexpected surprise. Maybe I liked this so very much because I'd just hit a run of sub-par and/or crappy books. Or maybe this was really just that good. For one thing, it's beautifully written. I found myself reading it very quietly aloud, not only to hear how the words flow...

So the man who wrote this is very, very young – as in hasn’t graduated college yet. Go figure, sometimes these wunderkind kid writers can actually write. The Peculiar’s major flaw is the ending where everything is not wrapped up. At times, the world building can drag just a little....

This book took me forever to read! Though the premise seemed interesting, something about the writing style and pace of the action just kept me from enjoying it fully. I never really fully immersed myself into this book.

I've finally read it again & it's really better since I did miss a lot of details on audiobook, I just don't have that good of hearing concentration.______________________nasty nasty faery... here's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell for children, though i think the world is even darker than Susanna Clar...

A lovely and impressive debut. If I wanted to sum it up very quickly, I would say Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell for middle schoolers. That’s fairly accurate, although it’s actually set in a pseudo-Victorian world, but it stands solidly on its own.

Amazing, breathtaking, gripping, incredible, magnificent, stupendous, wondrous..There are so many good adjectives I find fitting for this book—just too many—that it left my mind almost impaired. As what its name suggested, The Peculiar isn't a common fantasy story. Bachmann was able to carefully carv...

The Peculiar was one of the books that I was really looking forward to reading ever since I saw the cover and read the synopsis. I love the cover of this book! Unfortunately, it took me a long time to even get into this book. It's a fast read, but I just wasn't loving it as much as I had hoped I wou...

THREE WORDS: Enchanting & Whimsically DarkI've been looking forward to reading Stefan Bachmann's The Peculiar for awhile now, drawn to the intriguing steampunk and fantasy midde-grade premise, and I'm happy to report that it not only lived up to my expectations, but I really loved it as well!Barthol...
