Opening Line: “When two gentlemen are related by blood, they do not usually address each other with formality.” Based on all the glowing reviews and accolades THE RAKE has received I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this regency romance. And I guess because I’d heard so many go...

I can see why this one won a RITA award. Reggie and Alyce are some of the most layered characters in a romance I've read recently. I found Reggie very realistic in his struggles with alcoholism and reforming. Alyce was a slightly less deep character but only because we've read the beautiful-woman-wh...

The Rake, huh?More like ‘The Alcoholic’ but that probably wouldn’t make a good title for a bodice ripper and supermarkets wouldn’t stock it. This must be the first historical romance written along the lines of 12 steps of AA clubs. You can see it in its structure but I am not admonishing Putney for ...

The Rake (revised from The Rake and the Reformer) has two of the best characters I've read: Reggie, who is fighting to recover from alcoholism, and Lady Alys, whose actions show that empathy is a strength. Their internal growth is powerful, and believable, and painful, and wonderful. It has solid h...

I havent read a "ton" (hehe) of historical romance novels. I'm pretty new to the genre. Nevertheless, this one will easily go down as one of my historical romance favorites. I don't have a negative word to say about it. Loved it!

This has to be one of my favourite Regencies by Putney. Reworking (and better than the original) of The Rake and the Reformer.
