A vast, all-you-can-eat, SF buffet. Probably off-puttingly long for those trying to cram in 250 books in a year and whether or not the story actually needs an entire chapter on the evolution of the Ly-cilph is open for debate but for those of us happy to sud ourselves in a highly readable SF saga th...

*sigh*I wanted to like this. I did. And I liked parts of it a lot, many of the ideas were fascinating, several of the characters I really dug. But there were other issues that hampered my overall enjoyment, and they can't be ignored. On a small, barely developed planet, some kind of ancient alien for...

I bought this book because I'd heard it's good. It didn't disappoint! It's a great story with lots of tension about what's going to happen. One of the things I really liked is how the author explains some of the science behind the science-fiction stuff / technology (such as the ships). What I liked ...

"TL,DR. There are very few SF stories that justify more than 120,000 words."- Jo Walton's blog on Hugo Nominees: 1998Jo Walton is the best sf books reviewer extant (IMO), as an author she is no slouch either. I loved this.I think the only problem was that there were so many story lines that I occasionally lost track of who was who and who was doing what where. It took a long time to get into the action, too, though I think in retrospect I appreciate the buildup and the mystery, wondering what was going o...

Enjoyable, but I'm getting a little tired of all-powerful ghosts who can't be stopped by any weapon known to man. We've had hints - I think there have been 3 methods that will exorcise the spirit - so why not get on with it. Basically, this 1100 page tome should have been 300.

I like trash and Hamilton writes the best trash. so elaborate. the dead are coming back to possess the living except it's all science fictional! great world-building. I love world-building when the world being built gets destroyed. in this book, that's a bunch of worlds. plus some cool but corny but...

So far we've had:Awesome:- Humans biologically bonded to technology: Because I can't wait for my own neural link into the internets.- Space colonisation programme, settlers, frontiers, etc. = I always enjoy this sort of thing. Not so awesome:...
