Last summer, my spouse and I began to watch an old movie, The Red House, starring Edward G. Robinson and Julie London (she of the smoky voice: Cry Me a River). My spouse didn't like the beginning. Something about abusive behavior towards young women, I think. I got intrigued and decided I might try ...

I have to confess that I find Mark Haddon's style of writing quite difficult to get into. In fact I did give up on The Curious Incident... because I found it so hard going. However I stuck with The red House and, once I had got used to his style, I found it quite a good book. It is different from mo...

The book was just confusing. The point of view often changed with no clear indication that it was now a different character. It was almost like the author submitted his free-writing exercise to the publisher and they didn't bother to edit it.

I really wanted to like this book. It seemed like the sort of book I would like. However, the drastic and sudden changes in point of view was off putting. It changed consciousness so quickly, I never got to stay with a character long enough to find anyone interesting.

Angela and Richard are not close. Their mom has recently died, and Richard, who is very successful, invites his sister and her family to join his, at a country house for a week. The book is an enormous undertaking since it attempts to examine, interpret and resolve all of the issues in this estrange...

Meh. Too many short, choppy sentences and a lot of implying. I didn't understand what was going on half the time.

Me han recomendado mucho a Haddon. Mas de una docena de personas. Yo diría que ya era tiempo de que le echara un vistazo. Escogí este libro porque tendría diferentes expectativas que con los otros de él que ya he escuchado tanto. Y me gustó. Me gustó bastante. Si bien no es una historia que me hubie...
