A wonderful premise is ruined by poor writing. The story, while laced with intriguing references (Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, A Clockwork Orange, and the Lincoln assassination), drags under unnecessary descriptions, boring characters, and terrible pacing. Such a letdown.
An enjoyable police procedural, reminded me while reading it of a Law & Order Criminal Intent episode. An interesting choice of setting, 2019, with some much improved technology in the world, but well done and realistic rather than being over the top.
