I hadn't read this one before; it really gives a different view of Jane Sagan. And also, it adds to the series in a way that interstitial stories don't always. Too emotional a read, though, for me to love it completely.Personal copy

Gained almost nothing as far as plot in this series. However it was incredibly poetic and a nice introspective study.

The short novella is a solid addition to the Old Man's War series. I really enjoyed the introspection, although I'm certain that it isn't everyone's cup of tea. The story is really written for the fans, but doesn't belong as a standalone at all.

As a short story, the language is more literary than the series it derives from and the character is much more philosophical. It was pleasant to read, but doesn't fit well with the series for both of these reasons. It can't stand alone, but will be fun for those already familiar with the Old Man's W...

A good "background" novella that gives you a deeper understanding of Jane Sagan from the Old Man's War series. Despite the title, I do have to note that it doesn't actually read much like my idea of someone's diary. It's more like a collection of rambling, random disjointed thoughts thrown together ...
