Every year in Sophie and Agatha's village two children are taken away. The children are always opposites of each other: one kind, one mean; one handsome, one ugly, etc. The children never return, but a new book of fairy tales arrives every year, and children will sometimes recognize one of their for...

So. This book. It’s sort of an alternative fairy tale . . . ish. More Brothers Grimm than Disney. It’s dark and violent. Kids are tortured and unfairly punished and people are straight-up murdered. It’s light and funny. It pokes unmerciful fun at fairy tale tropes while at the same time embrac...

1/2 stars. Doesn't even deserve that.I seriously considered not adding this book, it was that bad, but I guess that people deserve to see the bad reviews so that they can decide if they want to read it.The premise for this book was very good, but the execution was a fail.I kept thinking of the chara...

"Who needs princes in our fairy tale?" Look at this cover. Does it look too juvenile to you (albeit pretty)? If yes, place your worries aside because this story will most likely "blow your socks". ;) So, myself, aka "the book grinch" had the most fun while reading this dark tale of re-imagined fair...

Although this book is marketed as middle-grade fiction, I shelved it as "YA" because I believe it is more suited towards older readers. Because The School for Good and Evil is quite a dark and twisted story and disturbing at times. And it was effing brilliant. What an unconventional story! I truly did...

“In the forest of primeval A school for Good and Evil Twin towers like two heads One for the pure And one for the wicked Try to escape you'll always fail, The only way out is Through a fairytale.” The poem is a nice little summation of what the school in The School for Good and Evil is all about....

Finally finished this one. It started out a four star but in the end I gave it a 3.5 star because it was just to long and seem to lag and drag. I enjoyed the story and will read the next one to see what happens next but it might be a while..as it's a long one too. Over all if you like fairy tale/fan...
