(Original Review, 2002-06-25)One of my oldest friends, both female and a graduate in English loathes Lessing, and I could just as easily wonder how Nabokov can offer anything superior to Under Western Eyes, The Secret Agent, Nostromo or Victory, which must have one of the most memorable lines in Eng...

It certainly has his eccentric writing style on display, but I never had a problem with that.Often characterized as a spy novel....

Like Heart of Darkness, Secret Agent:- Is deeply cynical- And heavily allegorical- And ends with a bang (although this book also begins with one).I guessed a big part of the plot pretty quickly, so I guess that's a negative...although I'm not sure it was supposed to be hard to guess. It's about a che...

A gripping read, 'The Secret Agent' pulls you in with a superb opening chapter and strings you along until the final rush. Conrad has lightened his Victorian style for this story, but is by no means stingy with words. An important character short on time and patience often demands to hear only the "...

I've been thinking some more about this book which is usually a good sign. I've also felt the urge to add to my review though to be honest my thoughts aren't particularly more organized than before. I guess reading some of the other reviews made me want to be more specific.I guess the ending in p...

The cover of my edition appears to illustrate Verlac outside the observatory.A wry and sly narrative from Conrad. It is easy to guess most of the plot fairly early on; characterization and the characters' ways of attempting to understand the situation are the more interesting reasons to keep reading...
