Technically, this one was written first as the author's notes in The Hidden Heart refer to it as a prequel. Fortunately, nobody was outright TSTL in this one. Our h - Leda - is possessing of some of the worse luck. First off, the H decides that her open window is too irresistible to pass up as a h...

I abandoned this book 50 pages in. Whereas the premise was interesting, I found the writing style too difficult to get into and the characters too flat and single-minded. I was getting increasingly irritated with the characters, so I gave up. I know, sacrilege considering this is a "classic," but I...

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, it's like there was this good emotional story with Samuel and Leda that you couldn't stop reading, and then there was the Japanese blot that I was totally uninterested in and just flipped through! There were some parts that were really dark, and then there wer...

It takes a really brave (or crazy) author to do what Laura Kinsale did in this book: take a 19'th century Englishman, brutally abused in his childhood, and turn him into a Japanese ninja-style warrior. The emotion these characters bring out in me - heart warming. If you want a romance with strong characters you hope work things out to win in the end, then this is one you won't want to miss. I don't give many 5 ...

Halfway through this book I was saying to anyone who would listen (mostly just my cats) that this was my ultimate romance!!!! The BEST love story. Evah. It had everything I require in a hero: angsty(oh, the angst!), driven, controlled, tortured past yet sensitive and kind... and quite a lovely heroi...

Wow! This book reminded me of one of those movies you see at the theater that is so intense, that when it ends, the whole audience just sits there, unmoving....silent and almost stunned. Kinsale is a talented story teller and her books are not formulaic romance novels. But I still have mixed feeling...
