Not a bad fantasy novel but not a good one either. The writing was professional, but the plot, the characters, and the world-building didn’t ring true. Of course, it is #7 in a series, but I’m not tempted to read the first six novels. Neither the world nor its denizens attracted me. Bishop’s world i...

The quen story was very sweet and the kind of romance I'd like to see more often. The crew side if things was intense and full of emotion. Good all around.

[Another old review with a guessed-at star rating. Rereading my review made me annoyed at this book all over again, so this probably deserves a lower rating. I'll let it keep its half star because there were parts of the book I liked enough to want to reread them.] I read a comment about this book...

This not the book I'd start with if you're new to Anne Bishop or her Dark Jewels series. I'd recommend reading first at least the opening trilogy of Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows and Queen of the Darkness, and I think it would help to read The Invisible Ring, which forms the backdrop to...

Tangled Webs was quite disappointing for me, especially since I was so excited in the beginning about the prospect of a whole book being devoted to Surreal. This one now is as good as the original Black Jewels trilogy. I dived right back into the world and wouldn't and couldn't let go. :o)

Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy remains firmly seated as one of the most unique collection of novels I have ever read. The novella, and two novels that followed were fascinating and heart-felt, and impossible to walk away from, impossible to call anything short of "amazing."However, it had been ...

This is not a good book. It is, however, incredibly engaging on a very specific level. If you're looking for reasonable human beings, beautiful turns of phrase, thoughtful politics or believable dialog, this is not the book for you. BUT. If you want melodramatic wish-fullfillment crack, then the...

My last encounter with Anne Bishop’s BLACK JEWELS SERIES did not go well. Okay, that might be a bit of an understatement. But I suppose even my inner fangirl is a bit hard-pressed to let go sometimes, so I decided to give the series one last try.The setup is somewhat different for The Shadow Queen. ...
