Just too many hunting stories to be a well-balanced Hemingway collection. "Snows of Kilimanjaro" is wonderful, just all the other manly war and hunting stories seemed over the top all at once. I mean, that's what Hemingway is known for but it became repetitive.

I think Hemingway was at his best in the short story format rather than in novels and Snows is as close to a Hemingway "best of" collection as you will find. "The Killers" and "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" are classics of the format.
My previous experience with Hemingway was A Farewell to Arms, and I think I put it down a few chapters in saying, 'Oh, god, I think The Real World must be on TV somewhere.' But I have to say, he really shines in short story form, and I think "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" is just plain masterful.I do...
