THE DEFINITIVE WORK OF AMERICAN TRUE CRIME FROM "AMERICA'S BEST TRUE-CRIME WRITER" (Kirkus Reviews) Utterly unique in its astonishing intimacy, as jarringly frightening as when it first appeared, Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me defies our expectation that we would surely know if a monster lived among us, worked alongside of us, appeared as one of us. With a slow chill that intensifies with each heart-pounding page, Rule describes her dawning awareness that Ted Bundy, her sensitive coworker on a crisis hotline, was one of the most prolific serial killers in America. He would confess to killing at least thirty-six young women from coast to coast, and was eventually executed for three of those cases. Drawing from their correspondence that endured until shortly before Bundy's death, and striking a seamless balance between her deeply personal perspective and her role as a crime reporter on the hunt for a savage serial killer -- the brilliant and charismatic Bundy, the man she thought she knew -- Rule changed the course of true-crime literature with this unforgettable chronicle.

3.0 The Stranger Beside Me
Oh boy, by the time I trudged through this I was no longer fascinated by Ted Bundy, I just hated him, and I hated reading about Ann Rule's feelings.I really liked the part where he thought he was smart enough to represent himself and then got the death penalty though.

3.0 The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy The Shocking Inside Story
A friend of mine raved about this book. While I am not as awestruck as she is (when I told her I was reading it I swear she got moist in the eyes). I did enloy this book but at times I found myself annoyed by the writing style. This book simply put is a mediocre author with great knowledge and insid...

5.0 Vigilance
Ever since I learned that there was such a thing as a true crime novel I have been interested in them. I have a strange relationship with true crime books and books about serial killers. I make myself read them and, because they scare the shit out of me, I don't read too many. They scare me more tha...

3.0 The Stranger Beside Me
Ann Rule is the James Patterson of True Crime writers. In other words, prolific, ubiquitous, practically rules her genre--but essentially an empty writer of boiler plate. But this book, such as it is, is definitely a fascinating read for two reasons: one, Ted Bundy is among that rara avis, a serial ...
