Lo, these many years ago I read this. After seeing the TV series I decided to revisit the books. I remember borrowing them from the Libraries at the time but I only read so far before stopping, I think I just stopped caring and now that I'm revisiting I'm finding that I don't really care what happen...

I don't know if I'm just to old, but this was terrible. and boring. and badly written. and I love Tolkien so it's not just the endless descriptions. I'm actually sorry I picked this one up.

Epic I don’t know about you, but I consider 700-page books pretty epic. This is probably the largest book I’ve read this year. It follows the journey of one Shea Ohmsford across this strange world with evil creatures lurking around every corner. It reminded me of when I read The Lord of The Rings an...

An entertaining read if a little wordier than I remember this from my first read back in the seventies. It was still worth the time spent listening and I am planning on listening to the rest of the first trilogy as time permits.4 Stars for a fun read and recommended for all fans of epic fantasy.

This was a fun book, but it seemed to pull a lot of elements that I had read in other books. We have the unlikely hero and his sidekick setting off on a quest given to them by a strange figure that seems mythical and extremely powerful. So powerful that many times throughout the story I wondered why...

3.5 stars. Certainly feels dated, but then it's a precursor to a lot of stuff that is derivative so reading it this late in the game is a bit unfair and hard to judge. I definitely see the LOTR influences throughout. And pacing was a bit long, especially in the first half. Didn't really feel like it...
