*Genre* Urban Fantasy Noir*Rating* 3.5-4*First Thoughts*The Taken is the story about two very unusual characters in Griffin Shaw and Katherine "Kit" Craig who end up being thrown together in order to solve a prostitution ring and the death of Kit's best friend. While Griffin is a Centurion who assis...
After Grif died, he became an angel tasked with shepherding newly killed souls to the afterlife. But a moment of mercy threatens the angels' secrecy, and as punishment Grif is forced to become human again. He can return to his celestial form only after he watches Katherine Craig die. The number one question in Griffin Shaw's life is who killed both him and his wife Evie fifty years ago. Though he has found new love with rockabilly babe Kit, Evie continues to haunt his dreams. It's been four months since he saved Kits life and returned to the mudflat (read: earth) but he is no ...
*slight spoilers ahead*I have to say straight away that Celestial Blues is a very different series from what Miss Pettersson wrote previously, as in it's not an urban fantasy. I was expecting one and to my (pleasant) surprise discovered that The Taken was a sort of a murder mystery with slight paran...
I really like the first three books in the Signs of the Zodiac series (the next two are on my shelf; I've yet to acquire the last), so I was looking forward to Vicki Pettersson's new Celestial Blues series. But The Taken's plot is nothing new: Powerful and/or wealthy men run a prostitution ring invol...

Though I did enjoy the characters themselves, they were unique and fun. I didn't quite buy into the romance between them however. Th...
An angelic Sam Spade with a softer side, a fast talking reporter who sees the good in everyone, the two main characters of THE TAKEN are two of my favorite tropes brought to glorious new life on the Vegas strip. Pettersson's rich writing style brings the witty banter and glamorous fashion of noir m...
