In high school Brad and I did a scene for the school, and then I read all the plays for my two Shakespeare classes at UNCG, and now I've reread it to keep Veronica company. As written there is only one amusing scene; takes some keen acting and directing to pull the rest of it off. Ten Things I Hate ...
There was a reason why I chose not to post that many updates with this play. Because they all would have included some F bombs. This play is super messed up and I cannot believe that anyone watches this and thinks, hey this is funny and so romantic. It is not. Well something nice first. I am very ha...
Ok. I didn't like the way women were portrayed in this play!I think the rudeness of Katherine The Shrew is not her fault at all! It's the fault of her father that she turned out a shrew in the first place! He treated her sister Bianca better than he treated her, and then she, poor Katherine, is port...
I'm not sure that I understand this play. The "its misogynistic" diatribes don't really grapple with it in an effective way. They founder on the fact that "shrew" is a relatively nice label to put on Katherine. She does tie up and beat her sister after all. The dialogue is crackling and it is cl...
Petruchio: A combless cock, so Kate will be my hen.Katherine: No cock of mine. You crow too like a craven.10 Things I Hate About You is probably one of my favourite movies, like ever. So when it came time to making my list of Shakespeare plays to read this year, The Taming of the Shrew was at the to...
This was a weird play, certainly not my favorite of Shakespeare's comedies, which I usually don't enjoy as much as the tragedies anyway. I'll have to see if my academic work on the play changes my opinion at all. I might rate higher if it lends itself to fun research.
What an odd, misogynistic play. Most interesting was the induction with Christopher Sly, a drunkard who is tricked into believing he is a rich lord. This plot line, included to set up the whole identity switch storyline, is never resolved in my text. I know Shakespeare is considered a master playwri...
Laugh out loud funny. Full of tricks and people impersonating other people. Still, I felt kind of bad for shrewish "Kate" who seems to have been mentally broken like a P.O.W. in Manchuria. Ol' Bill could have named the play Braking Your Wife With Stockholm Syndrome. Actually, the taming of the shrew...
I would imagine it may be entertaining on stage. Reading it was excruciatingly boring. That the play was laden with puns and what not did not make it any entertaining for me.
