Derivative, yes. The thirteen hallows are an obvious attempt to attract Harry Potter readers. But the book is a heart-thumpingly good fantasy/horror story that makes you care about the characters and keeps you on the edge of your seat to see whether good or evil will win out. Highly recommended.
