Not my kind of book. It just wasn't enough of anything, and I didn't care about any of the characters.

I liked this book a lot more than most people seemed to. I was really interested in the characters and setting, though the story didn't really captivate me until the guests in question arrived. Then it went in a direction I wasn't expecting, and I loved it. However, once the major conflict was resol...

Such a strange book. I'm not really sure if I liked it or not. The things that happen, it's more like a demon is amongst them egging them not. But it's not. And the pony coming down the steps and the face (you'll have to read it to understand), wasn't very pivotal to me but is in the book.

Her brother’s sulks are way past age-appropriate. Her sister’s whimsy at least provides some levity ...

Great characterisation and poor everything else. What an extremely contrived and pretentious plot.

This reminded me a bit of Henry James's book Turning of the Screw. It was a fairly solid ghost story and I enjoyed the time period. It wasn't fabulous, but there were pieces of it that were above average.I did not like that Emerald was originally described as a child (along with Clovis, who is arg...
