Right after finishing The Clan of the Cage Bear I wanted to read this second book The Valley of Horses. But for me it missed something. Ayla has left the people she grew up with and in search of The Others, but mainly she's just sitting in a cave, personally inventing all kinds of stuff. (It is al...

Thank God it is over - 2 stars Random Ramblings I cannot recall the last time I was so happy to finish a book. I felt as if I had gone up against a ferocious beast and emerged as the winner. Having recently read, REVIEWED and loved [b:The Clan of the Cave Bear|1295|The Clan of the Cave Bear (E...

This book was good, but I thought that CotCB was much better. I wasn't really into the story line involving Jondalar & Thonolan (J&T). I understand that they were young when they started their Journey (J - 18 & T - 15), but they constantly came across as bumbling idiots. I much preferred the book wh...

Ayla’s adventures volume two. The writing is as bad as it was in volume one (I detailed all the problems I had with it here: http://kinga.booklikes.com/post/102841/jean-m-auel-the-clan-of-the-cave-bear ) with the addition of hackneyed sex scenes. It makes me almost sad that generations of young gir...

If you skip every page that mentions Jondalar, this is the best book ever!Minus one star for Jondalar's existence.

It was a very dry, very detailed read. It could have been trimmed a bit here and there, and I have two of the four remaining books in the series, so I'll continue. Perhaps now that Jondalar and Ayla have found more people, things might pick up.

the first 2/3rds of the book were alternating chapters between ayla (main character in the clan of the cave bear) and a new major character, jondalar. i found all the chapters that focused on jondalar to be more or less extraneous (even though he was obviously a new major focus of the series) and d...
