I've found Simon Schama's trilogy very difficult to read, I think for three reasons. Firstly, he expects the reader to know a great deal about the subject, in very fine detail – it feels like a book for historians rather than the general reading public. I really enjoyed this series and Simon Schama's style, which made it easy to remain engaged in what is, especially over the course of three books, a mine of information on the history of Britain. It was informative and entertaining.
