Book 1 qualifies as Ohio for my USA by the book challenge. Book 2 is more than 50% set in Maine, so I'm counting it as fulfilling that state. This series was a re-read for me. It is more urban fantasy, less high fantasy, with a Harry Potter'esque (wizards among us) conceit. There is a completed st...

Seph McCauley's powers as a wizard are becoming more and more out of control. So much so, that someone eventually gets hurt...seriously hurt...okay, killed. He is sent to an exclusive boys' school in Maine, one in many schools he has been sent to over time. In fact, he has been sent to so many schoo...

3.5 StarsContemporary Fantasy is how I would classify this, I think that is a category. It is interesting because in most fantasy books I’ve read the environment is almost as much a character as the people in the story. Not so much the case in a contemporary fantasy. I will say that I prefer stra...

Following on from events in Warrior Heir this has a new character enter into the scheme of things, this new character is a Wizard, so the start of the book investigates some of the Wizard socieity in Chima's world. I took forever on this book, and maybe it's due to my procrastination, or due to the fact that the plot is just not engaging at all. That's it, I'm not going to continue with the series. I skimmed the last quarter of this book. Like, literally, just kept flipping the pages so fast like it was an eff...

Ok book. But the scenes about computers and Seph "hacking" were funny, since I doubt the author knows much about computers. And there were some times when I thought things could be done better, but the characters were too dumb. :P

A good solid read. I thought it would be a continuation of the story of the same main character (Jack) from the first book (The Warrior Heir). However, this is the story of an entirely different teen, with his story meeting up with Jack's about half way through the book. A bit predictable in the plo...
