(Original Review, 1981-01-25)Beauty is completely subjective, and in Victorian times when this novel was written, the ideal of beauty was extremely different to what we would consider attractive now. Blond, blue eyed, curly hair and very pale was considered lovely. Women went to incredible lengths t...
As BrokenTune mentioned in her review here, this was a buddy read we did together after discovering we had each bought the exact same edition in charity shops on opposite sides of the world. Thank goodness I had her to buddy read with, because I'm not sure I'd have finished it otherwise, and that w...
At the ripe age of sixty, I make this unparalleled confession. Youths! I invoke your sympathy. Maidens! I claim your tears. So finally, finally I got around to reading the classic that is The Woman in White. Many thanks to Murder by Death for being my reading buddy. It certainly helped me to susta...
I really loved this book. It has hit all the right spots with me and there isn´t a single thing that bothered me, which would make my star rating be any less than five stars. It is decidedly Victorian in outlook and does go on a bit. But even so, it was entertaining and engaging. I was looking f...

The Woman in White provides one with all of these things, and it does it quite well. Wilkie Collins gets you s...
