I saw the book mostly as contrived. He seemed to have only picked and chose the parts of the bible he wanted to take literally and didn't seem to do most of them. I wouldn't really recommend this book except as a library loan and if you have nothing better to do for that weekend.

I'm a big fan of social experiments, documentaries and the like. I came across A.J. Jacobs' book The Year Of Living Biblically (complete with a picture of him dressed all Moses-esque on the cover) one day during one of my secondhand book shopping binges and immediately chucked it into my husband-cri...

A.J. Jacobs is hilarious, and honestly so. He made Leviticus so much more interesting than I ever thought it could be.

I just couldn't get through it quickly and I kept having to return it to the library so other people could read it. Th...

I didn't love love this book, but I find myself (three years later) still often bringing up little vignettes from it in conversation- definitely taught me a lot in an enjoyable manner.

Jacobs and his Year of Living Biblically can be criticized for a lot of things. It’s not very structured. There is a superficial intellectual exploration of his topic. It smacks of attention-grabbing behavior that probably comes out in therapy. But I really liked this book anyway.Jacobs takes the ...

I honestly thought it was just going to be a silly book about not trimming your beard, wearing all white, and playing a ten-string harp for a year. And in part, it was silly. But at the same time, it has some interesting bits of information and at times is actually thought-provoking. I perhaps would...
