My new book, THE SHIFT: ONE NURSE, TWELVE HOURS, FOUR PATIENTS' LIVES, shows not just a-day-in-the-life of a nurse, but all the life that occurs during one day in the hospital. I also am a frequent contributor to the NEW YORK TIMES and the author of CRITICAL CARE, a memoir of my first year of nursing. Before I became a nurse I taught English at Tufts University.
