(This book just didn't grab me enough to merit a long review.) I found This Beautiful Life on Adult Books 4 Teens, and while it's reasonably relevant to the whole issue of online shaming that teens have to grapple with, I actually didn't find it especially engaging for teens. If the novel had been...

I loved the concept and the idea, but the writing just didn't live up to it.

I have given this 3 stars because, although I thought most of this book rang true, I thought that the conclusion was rushed. I would have liked the author to have explored the fallout more thoroughly.

Once, the Bergamots were the darlings of the Manhattan jet set. Transplanted there by virtue of a job offer Richard Bergamot could not refuse, they packed up and left their happy, small town, suburban lifestyle for the fast pace of the city and a future of financial triumphs. It felt uneven. I didn't start off liking the family -- but I think that was the intent. It seemed an odd choice to go back to Daisy at the end. I kept wondering about Coco and how she would fare long-term. I was glad it was a quick read, but my time would have been better spent on something else.

I finally finished reading the most recent book I won on Goodreads. At first glance, this appears to be a story about the dangers of teens sending sexually suggestive (or in the case of this book, explicit) messages to boys/girls they like. However, that event was just the catalyst for getting this ...

This Beautiful Life is both strikingly of the moment and just a bit behind the times. Its events take place in 2003, a time when many of us were starting to live online, but when the most common way to share over the internet was still via e-mail. A story in which the catalyst is a video that goes v...
