This was my final holiday read for Christmas this year and it was excellent! Otto Penzler, the owner of The Mysterious Bookshop in NYC, each year commissions a short mystery from a well-known author, to be published in a small pamphlet and given to customers at the holiday season as a way to say ...

Well, that was pretentious.Extended version: I didn’t get too far into this. Extremely early on comes this line, and I noted it wondering if it might be a pre-emptive strike: “I, the stay-at-home literary critic, whose primary gift was in dissecting novels that, no matter how awful, were certainly b...

I loved this book. I begin reading it at 9:30pm. Went to bed. Got up and finished the book. It was so compelling and emotionally evocative.

Very well written and surprisingly enthralling book, in light of the consistently depressing nature of the subject at so many levels. A mystery that gradually unfolds, with each new revelation becoming more disturbing, leading to a denouement that surprises in many ways.

The Crime of Julian Wells is an absorbing read and I truly enjoyed this introduction to Cook's work. Cook masterfully weaves elements of Julian's past, his fervent belief that a father is the most important element in a child's life into a compelling and tense narrative that makes you consider the ...

Okay so I found this book at the bottom of a stack of already read books at a yard sale a couple of doors down from where I live. It was clear to me from the get go that it had not been read by anyone in the family of it’s current home, it’s pristine condition leaving no doubt on that score. I q...

Niektóre opowiadania lepsze, niektóre gorsze, ale ogólnie książka moim zdaniem słaba. Trochę mało realistyczne, ale niektóre potrafią wciągnąć. Chociaż nie przepadam za krótkimi, kryminalnymi opowiadaniami.
