Thomas P. Hettmansperger is professor emeritus of Statistics at Penn State University. His research interests span nonparametric statistics, robustness, and mixture models. He published two monographs in nonparametric statistics: Statistical Inference Based on Ranks (1984) and Robust Nonparametric Statistical Methods (1998) with J. W. McKean. He worked for the last ten years on mixture models with a colleague in psychology and with the support of the National Science Foundation. He spent periods of time as visiting professor at universities in Australia, Finland, and Switzerland. He won the Noll Teaching Award in the Penn State Eberly College of Science in 1986 and the Noether Senior Scholar Award in Nonparametric Statistics by the American Statistical Association in 2004. He is a Fellow of Institute of Mathematical Statistics and American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
