Elle Stowell is a thief -- a burglar to be precise. She's careful, methodical, careful -- she doesn't use weapons, she focuses on cash and things that are easy to sell. You really can't call anyone in her profession "risk averse," but she's as close to it as you could possibly be. She's a cute, pe...

Oh man . . . this brings me back to the conflict I felt trying to discuss Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes. This is a heckuva read until it's not -- but we'll get to that in a bit. I know precious little about Bomb Squads, and have read precious little about them. I think Crais' Demolition Angel i...

Jack Till is a retired LAPD homicide detective turned P.I. Six years ago, he helped a woman named Wendy Harper vanish from the face of the Earth. She'd been horribly beaten and was afraid that next time she wouldn't survive, and neither would her loved ones. But now, for reasons unknown, someone has...

Professor Dominic Halkyn gets a strange phone call from someone claiming to have a very very special medieval book in his possession. To prevent the caller from destroying this book Dominic will have to meet his demands. For once, although this is only my third Bibliomysteries-series books, I felt...

Part of a series of longish short stories which center on marvelous books, which is a great idea. (Thank you to the publisher, from whom, via Netgalley, I received this for an honest review.) This was nicely done: a twisty story of suspense – especially if you’re of the target audience, a capital-B ...

Pretty tempted to round my 3.5-star rating to 4 because of Elizabeth Waring who, despite being a woman in the man's man's world of 80s government, and proclaiming that “I'm not even a field investigator. I'm a data analyst.” still manages to be pretty kickass. Data nerds FTW!

I'd have to say this isn't my typical type of book, so I'm glad it was selected for Action group's read this month. I found it enjoyable. I think that if this was a movie, it would be a Steven Soderburg movie for sure. I could see his touch all over the movie adaptation. What I liked:*I liked the wry...

A decidedly "bleh" homage to Sherlock Holmes, which reaches a nadir of unreadability with "The Startling Events in the Electrified City." I couldn't finish the story and thought of giving up on the collection entirely.I persevered, however, and the remaining stories weren't too bad. Just not "too go...

Interesting background material, likable characters, but slimmed down to simplistic and cartoon-like action.

This is the second book in Perry's serIes with private detective Jack Till. Good story that kept me interested. Till has been hired to find the killer of his client's daughter. As he researches the case, he learns that the guy who killed this woman is in fact a serial killer with a pattern of killin...
