Ok, so I never got around to reviewing this, but it's a very enjoyable screwball comedy from 1941, and directed by Howard Hawks.
Gary Cooper is good, Barbara Stanwyck is great, and the premise is hilarious.
Eight professors are writing an encyclopedia. After a talk with the milkman, Bertram Potts (Gary Cooper), the grammarian, realizes his article on slang is woefully out of date. His researches lead him to Sugarpuss O'Shea (Barbara Stanwyck), a nightclub singer engaged to a crime boss. When the boss gets in trouble and the DA starts looking for Sugarpuss, she's forced to hide out. Where better than with a bunch of old professors?
It's even got Gene Krupa, the drummer and band leader, performing Drum Boogie in the nightclub -- and doing it on a matchbox with matches for drumsticks.
Look for it on TCM; definitely worth the time.
