I read this one a few years ago. The plot never stops.
Darn. I'm still waiting for a library copy.
I have this one, so I will get it started when we get home in a couple of days.
I haven't had a chance to move on with this series. I liked the first novel. I found it full of an intense grit that one rarely finds in Tudor era novels. I liked this Walsingham. He reminded me more of the creeping, plotting Geoffry Rush from Elizabeth. The Shardlake novels are possibly the only other novels that come to mind that have a similar feel.
I saw a few comparisons between this and Shardlake in reviews. Through the first half of this especially, I would agree due to the atmosphere of Tudor England that is created. It veers a bit off course and is a lighter read, I think.
It is a definitely a lighter read than Shardlake. I think most Tudor-era mysteries are. The only other Tudor-era mysteries I have read have been pretty fluffy. The Ursula Blanchard mysteries (which apparently are still being published) come to mind. I thought this one was a nice balance.
