Share your 2013 favorites!

I know it's a bit early yet, but we are quickly approaching the end of 2013. So, I thought it'd be a good time to get ya'll thinking about your 2013 favorites. Did you stumble upon a new2you author, series or have a favorite book.

I have a hard time narrowing down 1 favorite, but I have had 20 5-star reads this year. Of those, five books were in new2me series written by authors who were new to me. Two were in non-paranormal romance genres.

New2Me Author & Series Favorites
- Julie Kagawa | Blood of Eden
- Karine Halle | An Experiment in Terror
- Helen Harper | Blood Destiny

Longstanding Author & Series Favorites
- Jeaniene Frost | Night Prince
- Rachel Vincent | Soul Screamers
- Faith Hunter | Jane Yellowrock
- R.J. Anderson | Ultraviolet
- Kim Harrison | Rachel Morgan
- Nalini Singh | Psy-Changelings
- Jenn Bennett | Arcadia Bell
- Darynda Jones | Charley Davidson
- Ilona Andrews | Kate Daniels
- Stacia Kane | Downside

What about you?

Demonica was one of my favorite reads. I heard she's returning to it once Lords of Deliverance is completed. I'd love that!

I've got several of Eden's Night Watch books TBR. Glad to hear you like them.

Shelly's Pack and Pride series are a hoot. A good-time read, for sure!

And, I have to agree about LotU #10. Poor Kane. I was also really anxious for more about him and the book was 3-stars for me. Most of the books in that series have gotten 4-5 from me. Torin is up next and I'm hopefully it'll be good story.
I've got 25 books on my favorite 2013 reads (so far! there is always hope!) and I rated 14 of them 5 stars:

Frost Burned - Patricia Briggs
Lover At Last - JR Ward
Red Seas Under Red Skies - Scott Lynch
Binding the Shadows - Jenn Bennett
Magic Rises - Ilona Andrews
Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo
Scarlet - Marissa Meyer
Clockwork Prince - Cassandra Clare
Clockwork Princess - Cassandra Clare
Written in Red - Anne Bishop
Hunting Ground - Patricia Briggs
The Golem and the Jinni - Helene Wecker
Fair Game - Patricia Briggs
Under the Empyrean Sky - Chuck Wendig

I guess the only (non) surprise was that almost every every one of my five star reads was the continuation of a series!

My favorite read of 2013 - Written in Red by Anne Bishop; a somewhat familiar paranormal/fantasy idea turned ever so slightly on it's head and it really appealed to me. Can't wait for Murder of Crows in March.

Biggest disappointment(s) - tied between 1. Sandy Williams' The Shattered Dark (Shadow Reader 2) which had a great debut but totally flushed my hopes for a satisfying conclusion down the toilet!! and 2. the fact that two strong series fizzled out in their respective finales (Allegiant and Requiem).

I noticed that it was listed that way. I've started the LoD series, but have only read 2 of them. I hope Reaver is next in Demonica. I'm more interested in that world and those characters than I am with the horsemen.

Great list, Liz! I have heard good things about Shadow and Bone. I have it TBR, but haven't gotten to it yet. Same with Written in Red.

I'm so anxious for book 4 in Bennett's Arcadia Bell series! The ending in book 3 was a major cliffhanger! I just love that series. I started it late, in 2012, and got spoiled b/c I was able to read 1-2.5 that year. Waiting sucks!

I love Eve Langlais' writing! I've got that series, but haven't gotten to it yet.

I do get her newsletter and read that as well. I'm kinda bummed b/c I didn't want to have to complete the LoD series before getting more Demonica. :( And, my OCD keeps me from jumping around in a series. Sooooo, guess I'll have to finish LoD before reading Reaver. Two down, two to go.
LOL! True. Yeah, when I read that, I was thinking I might have to re-read #1-2 b/c I don't remember any "huge revelations". Huh. Nah, who am I kidding? I won't re-read those. I'll push thru the last 2 and hope those revelations are buried in there.
Need help?
