Hello everyone. I have one final question that has to do with affiliate links. I joined the Amazon affiliate program, not to get rich but to help me build my blog and to also help with building my own domain which I'm going to work on this next week. How does everyone feel about them? I know BL has a feature for them so I imagine a lot of people must use them. I've put a big Please Read Disclaimer on my front page because I just don't feel right about not telling people who may look at my reviews that I use them and I explained why I'm doing it.
Does it really matter? Is it just another good tool to help you and your site or do some people generally not like affiliate links? I'm pretty new to blogging and I'm under no illusions that I'm going to get rich, I don't blog because I want to make money but I would like to make my sites better and put the rest into running giveaways at some point later in time once I've gained a following (if I gain a following, lol) and more knowledge on what I'm doing.
Anyway, to me it just felt wrong not letting people know even though I don't mind if others use them. I'm the kind of person that if I know someone uses affiliate links I will always try to use them if I'm going to buy a book based on a review I read. I just like helping people. What are your thoughts on this? I'd really like to know. Thank you.
You asked this a long time ago, but I just saw the question. So this is what I think:
I don't mind affiliate links. I am also a blogger who has joined the Amazon affiliate program not to become rich. Reading is an expensive habit for those of us living in a third world country. I joined the affiliate program in hopes of being able to buy e-books with the earnings. So far I haven't earned anything. I don't think people like affiliate links. :(
Amazon requires their affiliates to disclose the blogger-amazon relationship, but even if it wasn't disclosed I don't mind the affiliate links in blog posts, like you said, I like to help people, if I help others, someone might help me. I like to think that as corny as it sounds: we're all in this together. (I don't mean to sound like a teen musical fan which I'm not!) :)
