Tim studied Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art under Stuart Brisley and History at Ruskin College Oxford under Raphael Samuel and Hilda Kean. He is an independent artist/poet whose practice is broad and includes performance, writing, sound, photographs, painting, sculpture, digital works, video and curating. He has exhibited internationally since 1986. Significant venues and residencies have included: The 54th Venice Biennale, ICA London, Museum of Modern Art Belgrade, Le Lieu Quebec, The Mass Observation Archive, Ikon Birmingham, The British Museum, The National Maritime Museum, Centre Regionale de la Photographie Pas de Calais. Among other projects Tim has curated a survey of British Sculpture at The Henry Moore Foundation, Brian Eno and a survey of punk on video (both at Arthouse Dublin). Collections include University of Aberdeen, Centre Regionale de la Photographie and 1:1 Projects Rome.Tim is Professor and Director of Pre-Doctoral Studies at Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand. Since 1992 he has been instrumental in the Higher Education Art landscape having developed and delivered the curriculum at Dartington College of Arts (Visual Performance, Performance Writing) 1992-1995, established the MA Curating programme at Goldsmiths and has taught into many of the UK art schools. He was Live Art Co-ordinator at Camerawork, London 1996, Director of Arthouse Multimedia Centre Dublin 1999-2000, Curator of Talks and Critical Events Project arts Centre Dublin 2000-2001. In the early 90’s he began developing a methodology based on the guided walk form (The Manoeuvre). His guidebooks and artist publications range from countryside journeys to tours of stately homes, urban zones, museums, archives and long distance pilgrimages. His recent work Roman Runner involved him ultra running the frontiers of the Roman Empire in Britain.
