I'm Professor of Ancient Literatures at Corpus Christi College, in the University of Oxford. Most of my work has been about the nooks and crannies ancient Greek culture: I like exploring unusual areas, particularly the points of intersection with other ancient cultures. I'm currently writing a book on ancient atheism for Faber and Faber. I like travelling (though I hate flying) - the job gives amazing opportunities to meet new people all over the world - and probably spend more time than I should kicking footballs. I have written for the Times Literary Supplement, the London Review of Books, the Guardian, the Observer and the Huffington Post, and have appeared on BBC TV and radio. I live in Oxford, and have two children.
