Tina Savas works with organizations that want to create awareness of women’s issues, encourage entrepreneurship and shatter the glass ceiling. She is among the first wave of women entrepreneurs in Birmingham, Alabama and is a self-confessed “Serial Entrepreneur.” In 1983, she founded the Birmingham Business Journal newspaper, followed by Alabama Health News, Alabama Construction News, and Birmingham Weekly, the area’s only weekly alternative newspaper and winner of national editorial awards. Her newspaper legacies include “The Birmingham 100,” “Top 40 Under 40,” “Best in Business” awards and the “Top Birmingham Women” award. She has served on local boards for community development, advised numerous foundations, colleges and hospitals and won many awards during her career. She hosted a weekly radio show, has appeared on television shows and is featured in the book, Italians in the Deep South, as one of the “newer generation” of Italians making “waves.” In her book, “Women of True Grit,” Savas interviews and shares the stories of women who were first in their field: Pioneers in their industries and communities…Women who knocked on the glass ceiling and then busted through…Women who have indeed “reached their destination of Leadership and Success.”Savas believes young women will benefit from inspiring voices of yesterday, a frank discussion of women’s roles today, and clearer options for a better future. Her passion, as a Speaker and Trainer, is to make sure all young women (and men) are free to execute those options.
