12/12 - I have been looking forward to reading my first Holly Black book for ages, more keenly since I saw it coming up in the queue of suspended holds at my local library. You see I have a system (I like systems, plans, self-imposed missions, that kind of thing) where I always have a library book ...

I hate when this happens....You start a book, it seems ok, like it has potential and you are happy. Although this is a YA novel, it's targeted for mature audiences. Just because the main characters are underage doesn't mean that the story is for little kiddies. I hate it when authors try and make a ...

I have an old battered copy of Tithe - a copy so old it took some digging to find even a passable photo of the cover. I've read it at least three times now and it's definitely an old favourite of mine. I've never reviewed it before though, and I do think that I was reading this for the first time I ...

Really good YA novel. You can tell when they put time into the margins and the type that the publisher is invested in the series. Really easy to read, especially on the bus (godsend!). Punk-rock fairies. Feels like the Breakfast Club, only with pixies.

Sounds like a rip-off of Emma Bull's "War for the Oaks," which is amazing. Not reading because if you're going to write about a girl who tours with a rock band and not give a nod to the woman who pretty much came up with urban fantasy (besides Charles De Lint) then it's a no-read for me.

Any book that becomes hyped up to the point of legend is a bit nerve-wracking to read. If it's great then, well, all as expected. If it's bad, the let-down is disproportionately huge. And if it's neither? Even worse - if it's... both? How to respond?!For me, Tithe is one of those super-hyped books t...

It was a pretty poor book, in my opinion. The overall idea was interesting to me, "The Modern Faerie Tales" sounded like an interesting thing to me. When first hearing this, I thought it was a great idea and could be full of faeries and mythical creatures that have blended into our society. I was com...

Kaye is a teenage dropout. Her mother is a wannabe rock star, moving her from place to place. She swears, she drinks, she smokes. One night at a bar, after her mom’s band is done playing, Kaye sees a mysterious stranger whispering in the ear of her mom’s current boyfriend. Suddenly the boyfriend att...
