*Listened to the audiobook last night. Mark Hamil read it and I was not impressed. His voice was at once gratingly annoying and absurdly monotone. That sucker gets a 1 star.
Illustrated - really beatiful.
Gorgeous illustrations help carry the shortcomings in the storytelling. There are other wittier, more engaging series out there about 3 children left to problem-solve on their own in a spooky old house, but Spiderwick is perfect for the pre-Lemony Snickett crowd. I read the first 3, I think. Very imaginative, lively little series for kids.
