by Carol Berg
[Originally posted on tumblr on 14. November 2013] I read 'Transformation' by Carol Berg like a madperson and finished it today. Um. Alright, I have no idea why I even picked up this book. I think because someone on Goodreads wrote about ‘homoerotic subtext’ in their review? I couldn’t see anythin...
I clicked and was sucked right into the story of Seyonne, an Ezzarian slave now for 17 years, and Alexander, a Derzhi prince who buys him. I spent the rest of the day and half the night re-reading this book. I do not want to go into the plot of this book for I read this book blind the first time....
I love this book in every way. Carol Berg's writing is phenomenal, as always; her characters are wonderful and strike so close to the heart with their stories and narration; the plot is deep and rich and perfectly executed. I twas all due not due to the plot...which while good was not too far off from most fantasy plots, but...
Can't count how often I read that one. Everything about this book is great. The person of Seyonne, an enslaved warrior who kept his dignity through the worst humiliation a human being can expect. An example for growing to unexpected heights by living through the deepest depths. Prince Aleksandr, an ...
This is a solid fantasy, with strong characterization and world-building, plenty of magic, dynastic intrigue and varied cultures. There is not so much as a soup̤on of M/M action, romance or even sex itself. To my surprise that did not end up being a problem since the slave story itself is the best ...
I so liked this book! Unlikely hero, bromance, superb world-building, exorcising demons even! Berg can really spin a tale. I found myself entranced and sucked in to this world rather quickly. I definitely plan to move ont o the rest of the series....
