Steve crawls to shore… apparently free from the Death of Water’s eternal hell. This is unexpected – but not as much as being greeted by men with guns… or finally getting home to find that Lisa and Tim think he’s a monster. And they have 3 other copies of him lurking in the basement. Each of which ...

After pondering this novella for a day, I decided to give it 3-stars and NOT continuing the series. I am not saying that this is a bad story but I think my biggest issue is that the original works are called "Trilogy"; and as much as the ending of the third book being heartbreaking, I thought it was...

Did not finish. Multiple major formatting errors, including missing section breaks when perspective shifts. No baseline for the world so we have no idea what the characters are like before things go to hell. No real character work at all. Just lots and lots of weird things that aren't very well expl...

This book, though I didn't realise it when I started it, is exactly the sort of industrial fantasy-horror that I really enjoy but rarely find, which means it definitely won't be for everyone. Really, if I were to classify it I would say it would be most at home with the Weird (and not really steampu...

Roil is a hard book to rate - and even to comment on.On the one hand, the world-building was great. Unique. Fascinating. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into it, a mixture of alternative universe / high fantasy / steampunk (with possible scifi elements). On the other hand, there's the writing. I su...

Steven de Selby is the newest RM of Mortmax industries, member of the Orcus and avatar of death for the whole of Australia. And that’s not an easy job. It’s especially not an easy job when you have lost as many people as he has and are still reeling from the shock of a near regional apocalypse. Now ...

I'm so disappointed in the ending. Even though all three books are in this one volume I have rated the other two separately. I actually read the first book from the library. I liked the first book (4 stars). The second book was weaker (3 stars), but the third book was much better (4 stars) ... until...

My first reaction when I finished this one was muttering to myself, "I hate you Trent Jamieson, I hate you for making me cry with the ending"This is the last book of The Death Works Trilogy. Over the course of two books, I fall in love with Steven de Selby, because I think he is different from other...

It took me a while to figure out just what was going on. Once I caught up to speed, though, I became more invested in the story. The Roil reminded me a lot of "The Nothing" from The Neverending Story (but more torturous).

3.5/5egalley thanks to Angry Robot Interesting premise isn't it? And totally wrong.I had to literally fight my way through the book. Don't get me wrong, - this is a good book, interesting, original, leaves plenty to work with for your imagination... But my God, would it have hurt to give us a little...
