Aly's adventures, first started in Tamora Pierce's Trickster's Choice, continue in this spectacular sequel. After having survived their exile to Tanair, the treachery of Prince Bronau, and the dead of winter, the Balitang family is now back in Rajmuat at the behest of the current regents. With the r...
Didn't feel there was much development of Aly's character. The relationship between her and Nawat felt a little stilted - I thought there was more of a connection with the Captain of the King's guard. Not the best book I've read by this author.
12/13 ** Best of Pierce's work. 9/9/12 ** Comfort food for the beginning of the school year. Always enjoy revisiting old friends.12/10 ** I really like this pair of books. Pierce is not afraid to explore the issues surrounding colonialism and race-based segregation. This fantasy world provides a...
I love Pierce's books, high fantasy young adult works featuring strong heroines and this is among her best set in Tortall. I loved the milleu depicted in this book, which reminded me of Indonesia somewhat. This is the second book centered on Aly, daughter of Alanna from the Lioness Quartet and I lik...
I can't believe it took me all these years to finally read about the adventures of Alanna's daughter - after all, the Lioness was one of my favorite childhood heroes! As always with Tamora Pierce, Aly is delightfully different from her other female protagonists, and the books of the duology are fill...
This is very much about how a group of people go about taking power from a set of invaders. This is almmost exclusively politics with a little bit of magic and gods thrown in for interest. 1.5 starsBook two in the Daughter of the Lioness duetEven more political than the first. Slow. Sarai never struck me as a worthy candidate, so no loss when she scuppered off to Carthak, but the loss of Elsra and the poor boy king, but four years old, was tragic.Of course, many more die as is inevita...
Sequel to Trickster’s Choice. I could tell part of where the story was going by the end of the first book, but I was still entranced by this one. I really like Aly and hope that eventually we hear some more about her.
