This is a very strange book. The book starts as a young photographer rescues a troll, which in the realm of the book really exists. And then things get strange. The love story part of the novel in particular. The love story is between various characters as they all try to get into Angel's pant...

I was very taken with the idea of a fantasy book written by a Finnish author and steeped into Nordic folklore. This story is different from my usual reads (epic/low fantasy) and the worldbuilding is particular, consisting in several explanations, poems or details about trolls and other topics relate...

I'm not even sure where to start reviewing this one. The summary on the book page does the book no justice and fails to capture the feeling of the setting. Compulsively engaging and strangely vulnerable. Certain story elements are not surprising, the pieces clearly laid towards them, but they a...

47. TROLL, BY JOHANNA SINISALORecommended by Tytti, on Goodreads. Unfortunately, I think the translation was very bad... The use of Finnish troll lore & subtle social commentaries are clever & the overall writing style is elegant imo.

What's it about? Mikael is returning from a gay club one evening and intercepts a gang intent on bea...

Too slow and boring at parts but it's a great style and interesting; it's a good book if you just want to try something different.

Sinisalo posits that trolls are actual creatures, just long unknown to science because of their shy and nocturnal habits. When our protagonist, a gay ad designer, finds a young troll being abused by a gang of teenagers, he takes the creature into his home. However, rather than calling animal control...

Finland.Troll is an enjoyable fantasy novel in pastiche form. Sinisalo weaves together mythology, invented news reports and research works, and short sections from multiple narrators' perspectives to tell a psychological tale that is definitely homoerotic, possibly bestial, and definitely not for ch...
