3.5 starsI guess I was overreacting or just tired the other day...This book actually brings up some interesting topics and really liked how they all come through the observation of different shells. The author really has a way with words.
I found this audio in the bag I keep in the car. It's a nonfiction account of one woman’s ruminations on life while she escapes to a beach cottage for a few weeks. This was written in the 50's but much of it still feels eerily current and will likely resonate most with introverts.. The MP3 player in...
I picked up a Gift From The Sea after reading the historical fiction novel The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin, which is loosely about the life of the author Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I learned from The Aviator’s Wife that Anne was a smart, poetic, insightful and strong woman. This definitely shows ...
I am going back and forth on the rating for this one: On the one hand, there's less than 150 pages and at least 7 sticky notes... this reflects well on the book. Then I saw a battered, yellowed, falling-apart paperback in a thrift store and thought, “Fifteen cent...
I can tell you right now, don't get this out at the library, because you'll want your own copy to highlight and underline. This is one of those books that you see as a great gift book. "Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after. " "Security in a relatio...
★★★★★I loved this book. My mom gave it to me as a gift when I was a teen and I've read it a couple of times. Still relevant today. Beautifully read by Claudette Colbert.
Is it just me, or is there something about Lindbergh that's very smug? I'd rather reread Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own, or Donald Hall's Life Work.
I know that this book might seem dated, targeted as it is to stay-at-home moms. Women who work and don't have children already get the tangible evidence of accomplishments, the regular pats on the back and remuneration, the time alone or with a partner. But if you are a stay-at-home mom or a mom try...
