by Chuck Wendig
I would like to thank NetGalley and Skyscape for providing me with a copy of this book. The Heartland Trilogy #1 Release date: July 30th 2013 Goodreads link I requested this book a while ago, cause it was available until July 14th. But then I never took the time to read it, shame on me. I shoul...
4/5 stars*Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*“That’s life in the Heartland.”What’s life in the Heartland like? Monster corn that isn’t even safe to eat is the only crop that isn’t outlawed, floating cities above that treat the Heartlanders lik...
Months ago I started reading Chuck Wendig's blog I enjoy it so much I decided I needed to read one of his fiction books. This looked like a good one to start with. Its a Dystopian YA with corn that is taking over and maybe thirsty for blood, Hobos, a lottery, action, Elite people living in the sky....
In the Heartland, genetically modified corn has overrun everything and people struggle just to survive. Young Cael McAvoy is the leader of a salvage crew, finding scraps of a bygone age to sell to bring in money for his home town, Boxelder. But when Cael and his crew find some forbidden plants growi...
I've heard good things about Chuck Wendig, and I do enjoy his blog quite a bit, but I'd been reluctant to try his fiction. It sounded a bit more gruesome and, er, intense than what I usually like to read. But when I read his Big Idea post on Scalzi's website, I knew I at least had to check this one ...
It's becoming clear to me that I enjoy everything that Chuck Wendig writes. This is in a very different vein from all the other books he's written but heck if he doesn't pull it off brilliantly. This is dystopian/YA(ish?)/scifi and the world building is fantastic..so glad there is more to come.
What did you say? Wendig calls it cornpunk?(Scratches chin.) I like this. I like this a lot. This is going in a direction I can get behind. These days, dystopia YA is all the rage. One is born every time someone farts. Only half of them fit the definition of dystopia. (For definition, see my Divergen...
I loved it! I thought it was a really interesting take on both dystopian and YA. It was a very fast read (I think because he writes so fast ;) ) and I honestly can't wait for the next one.
I've read and enjoyed several of Wendig's adult books, so when I learned about this YA trilogy, I knew it would be on my list. I expected good action, interesting characters, and the author's unique approach to dialogue. Yes, Virginia, there are swears in these pages, but honestly, there were strong...
This was an e-ARC I received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I thought it was really fantastic, but honestly, I'm also a little lost as to how to talk about it. To understand, I guess you have to be at least a little familiar with Chuck Wendig and his writing. If y...
