I have mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed the historical backdrop and the romance, but unfortunately a few things fell short. First and foremost, I wish we saw more of John and Hagen in enemy mode. They are sworn enemies and it constantly felt like they were right on the edge of real animosity...

This is the first book I've actually finished in about three weeks. That's the longest slump I've had in years so thank goodness for this book pulling me out of it. I think what really pulled me into this story was the time period. I don't read many books set during WWII. Then there is the whole f...

About 15 years ago I decided that I’d read enough books about WW II to last me a life-time and would try to stay away from them. That was before I read ‘The Book Thief’, before I discovered Elizabeth Wein and before I even knew ‘Unhinge the Universe’ existed. So far, every single time I broke my vow...

I've read a lot of books / stories and seen a lot of movies - both based on real events and fiction of World War II. To say "I've had enough" sounds a bit harsh (especially for a Jew) but in a way, after reading so much about it, hearing from relatives and people around me, I have the feeling that e...

This is a love story, not so plain and definitely not simple. Chew on that for a sec… ok, good? Then let’s begin. This mostly takes place in 1944 in France, WW II at full blast, civilians and soldiers getting more and more demanding in their desires and actions to just make it all stop. The Russia...

Wow. This was a hell of a ride. To begin with we're introduced to Hagen, an SS officer captured by the Americans in France. Captured by one particular American, John, whose job it is to interrogate Hagen and find out what he's doing in France...and if the paperwork he's carrying is legitimate. So th...

Brilliant story about enemies, in the truest sense of the word, to lovers.Taking place during the end of World War II, two young soldiers, who are on opposite sides of the war, move from captor/captive to friends and lovers. SS Lieutenant Hagen Friedrichs, a brave young soldier, has just been caugh...

I really enjoyed this story all the way through. It was unpredictable, not knowing what was around the corner. The wondering if or when are they going to get caught! It keeps you on your toes the whole time. I found myself wanting these two men who, in reality shouldn’t even be together, to beat the...
