This retelling of Jewish folklore is a wonderful picture book. The reason for the three star rating is that the kindle edition does have some format issues, enough that it does annoy.But the story is wonderfully told, and the book begs to be read aloud.

retold by Arthur Ransome, illustrated by Uri Shulevitz I vaguely remembered parts of this book as I was reading it. I might have read it as a kid (the white rolls particularly stood out to me). All in all it's the usual fare found in fairy tales. I did like the color scheme Shulevitz used.

Is it because of Shulevitz' past work that this story reads like a fairy tale? A father who comes home having spent his last bread money on a map? Sounds like magic beans, right?
