Vania Ceccato is Associate Professor with focus on Urban Safety at CEFIN, the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. Her research interests are the geography of crime, safety and gender, quantitative methods and spatial data analysis. She has conducted research on spatial patterns of crime in Scandinavia, Brazil, UK and the Baltic countries, particularly on the relation between crime and socio-economic neighborhood dynamics and land use characteristics. Her current research projects deal with hedonic modeling and safety, adoption of household safety measures, places of outdoor rape, crime and fear of crime in transport nodes and safety in Swedish rural areas. Her researcher is gender informed and strive to build a knowledge basis that is relevant for practitioners devoted to safety issues. She has published in international journals, mostly in Geography, Criminology and Urban Planning. She is author of the book "Moving safely", Lexington books (2013) and the editor of the book "The urban fabric of crime and fear" by Springer (2012).
