Victoria Patterson is the author of The Peerless Four. Her previous novel, This Vacant Paradise, was a 2011 New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice. Her story collection, Drift, was a finalist for the California Book Award, the 2009 Story Prize and has been selected as one of the best books of 2009 by The San Francisco Chronicle. Her work has appeared in various publications and journals, including the Los Angeles Review of Books, Alaska Quarterly Review, and The Southern Review. She lives with her family in Southern California and teaches at Antioch University's Master of Fine Arts program.

Our narrator for this story is now middle aged and forced to give up her athletic pursuits to become the chaperon to the four girls heading to the Olympics.
