Vivek Shraya is a Toronto-based artist working in the media of music, performance, literature and film.Winner of the We Are Listening International Singer/Songwriter Award, Vivek has released albums ranging from acoustic folk-rock to electro synth-pop. His most recent is Breathe Again, a tribute to the songs of R&B artist Babyface.God Loves Hair, Vivek's first collection of short stories, won the Applied Arts Award for Illustration in 2010, and is currently being used as a textbook at several post-secondary institutions.His first short film, Seeking Single White Male, was featured at international film festivals throughout 2011. His film What I LOVE about being QUEER has expanded to include an online project and book with contributions from around the world, and was featured on Buzzfeed, the Huffington Post, and in ELLE Magazine India. Holy Mother My Mother, his fourth short film, was released this spring.Vivek has performed and read at shows and festivals internationally, sharing the stage with Tegan and Sara, Dragonette, and Melissa Ferrick, and appearing at NXNE, CMW, and Word on the Street. His music has also been featured on the TV show Degrassi.Vivek also creates and delivers workshops and guest lectures on writing, art, gender, sexuality and homophobia. He facilitated the Supporting Our Youth Pink Ink writing program for queer, transgender, Two-Spirit and questioning youth writers, and was the 2013 Artist in Residence at Camp fYrefly Edmonton.A two-time Lambda Literary Award finalist, Vivek was nominated for LGBTQ Person of the Year in the 2012 INSPIRE Awards, and was #1 on Nightlife's list of "Reasons 2011 was a Queer Year". His new book, She of the Mountains, will be published by Arsenal Pulp Press in the fall of 2014.
