Like many Americans, I grew up watching the annual TV broadcast of the Hollywood movie version of The Wizard of Oz. And while I love the musical Wicked and the Zooey Deschanel miniseries Tin Man, I had absolutely no desire to read anything by L. Frank Baum (partly due to one of my sister's teenage ...
The Oz books played a big part in my early childhood reading adventures. My sister would read them to me... and I have great memories from that because eventually we had many of the books memorised and we'd role play a lot. I hadn't read this particular book in a long time (I wouldn't be able to rec...
After growing up watching the film and the other adaptations I was excited to finally read/listen to the actual book. It was a lovely story and quite different from the film. It gets off to quite a quick start and moves along at a good pace throughout. Many scenes took place in a different order or ...
Rating: 3 of 5 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just couldn't outshine its film adaptation. I think for the first time in my life - I'd have to really think on it to know for sure - I actually enjoyed a book less than its cinematic counterpart. Shocking, right?! It's not that the story was boring ...
I am a little disappointed that the annotated edition is tied in with the normal editions of this book on here. This was a Christmas present, a book I long coveted. I wrote two papers on The Wizard of Oz in grad school, one for a witchcraft literature class and one for a class on film adaptations of...

Nur der große Zauberer Oz, der über das Land herrscht, kann ihr nun noch auf dem Weg nachhause hel...
After being a fan of the movie for so long this came off as a disappointment I guess. I like it for it's own version and story but when you compare I suppose it's not as fun, it's more straight forward and in some areas little to blunt.
As lovely as this is it is not the edition I would recommend as a reading copy. For that I recommend either an old beat up paper back (my personal favorite) or one of the lovely Books of Wonder reissues. This edition, however, is for the truly obsessed Oz enthusiast. The information in this book ...
Lovely illustrations that seem to be done with colors, which any child would appreciate perhaps more than many of the illustrated versions out there.
